Students rate key aspects of study quality very positively – with particularly strong feedback on the overall study situation, academic support, organization, course offerings, and library facilities
Business and Economics at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz received very positive ratings in key areas of study quality in the current CHE University Ranking 2026/27. Students gave particularly strong marks to the overall study situation, support from teaching staff, study organization, course offerings, and library facilities. Business and Economics also placed in the top group for the indicator “degrees completed within an appropriate period of time.”

The CHE University Ranking is one of the most important sources of guidance for prospective students in German-speaking countries. Conducted by the Centre for Higher Education since 1998, it does not produce a traditional league table. Instead, it evaluates results from student surveys as well as additional subject-specific indicators and assigns them to top, middle, and lower groups.
Positive Feedback on Studies and Study Conditions
For this year’s survey, students from 265 universities and universities of applied sciences were asked to take part. Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz achieved top-group results in eleven out of fourteen indicators across the participating subjects in law, business, and economics.
For Business and Economics in Mainz, these results are particularly significant because they reflect central aspects of everyday student experience: How well supported do students feel? How reliable is the organization of their studies? How compelling are the course offerings? And how well do rooms, library resources, and academic structures support learning?
Students gave particularly positive ratings for:
▪️ the overall study situation
▪️ support from teaching staff
▪️ study organization
▪️ course offerings
▪️ library facilities
▪️ support at the beginning of the degree program
▪️ degrees completed within an appropriate period of time
Recognition for the Many People Who Contribute to the Faculty
The results are good news for the faculty – and at the same time a recognition of the continuous work that supports the student experience every day. Study quality is not created in the classroom alone. It emerges through the interaction of many areas: committed teaching, reliable organization, academic advising, strong structures, and the feedback provided by students themselves.
The faculty therefore thanks all students who participated in the survey, as well as all teaching staff and administrative colleagues who contribute every day to the ongoing development of Business and Economics studies at JGU Mainz.
Guidance for Prospective Students
The current CHE University Ranking is published in the ZEIT Study Guide 2026/27 and is also available online via the HeyStudium portal. For prospective students, it offers an additional source of guidance when choosing the right subject and university location.
