We are happy to present the online edition of the annual review of the Gutenberg School of Management and Economics covering the academic year 2023\/ 2024.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year has seen some progress for our department, highlighted by the completion of the long-awaited renovation of the ReWi II building. The updated facilities now provide state-of-the-art resources that will enhance both our teaching and research activities. In addition, we have initiated the development of new undergraduate degree programs in management, economics and business informatics. We are also pleased to welcome Prof. Andreas Gerster, our new Professor of Environmental Economics, whose expertise will enrich our department's academic offerings. Additionally, we were successful in retaining Prof. Florian Hett, Chair of Digital Economics, at JGU Mainz, after he declined a competitive offer from the University of W\u00fcrzburg. These developments represent significant steps forward in our mission to strive for excellence in education and research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prof. Andreas Gerster joins JGU Mainz as a new professor of environmental microeconomics. His research focuses on questions of environmental and public economics, in particular the causal evaluation of climate policy instruments. Before joining JGU Mainz, he worked as an acting chair (2020-2024) and postdoc (2019-2020) at the Department of Economics at the University of Mannheim and as a postdoc at RWI \u2013 Leibniz Institute for Economic Research (2017-2019). He completed the PhD program by the Ruhr Graduate School in economics and received his doctorate in economics from the Ruhr University Bochum. He received several awards, including the Deutscher Wirtschaftspreis by the Joachim Herz foundation and the IIPF Young Economist Award. His research has been published in internationally renowned scientific journals such as Nature, American Economic Journal: Economic Policy, Economic Journal, European Economic Review, Journal of the Association of Environmental and Resource Economists, and Journal of Environmental Economics and Management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are pleased to announce that our department successfully retained Prof. Florian Hett (Chair of Digital Economics) at JGU Mainz. Prof. Hett, renowned for his research in household and behavioral finance, social identity, belief formation, and sustainable finance, received a competitive offer from the University of W\u00fcrzburg but chose to continue his work with us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Jana-Verena Gerhart has started an academic position at University of Gothenburg in July 2024 after successfully defending her dissertation \u201cA darkness shining in brightness. The Role of mixed emotions in the contexts of consumer psychology and decision making\u201d at the Chair of Management and Social Media (Prof. Dr. Oliver Emrich). In her dissertation, she assessed the role of mixed emotions in experimental research, developed music stimuli to elicit them and tested their effect on consumer choices in multiple experiments. In her new position, she will investigate consumer privacy at the department of business administration, section marketing of University of Gothenburg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the ceremony of the official inauguration of the academic year 2023\/24, the presidential board of the SGH Warsaw School of Economics honored Prof. Stefan Rammert (Chair of Accounting and Auditing) and Prof. Daniel Schunk (Chair of Public and Behav-ioral Economics) from Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz for their services to the German-Polish program. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prof. Stefan Rammert has been teaching the course \"Accounting of German companies\" at the SGH on a voluntary basis every year for almost 20 years. This is an important part of the german-language course \"Management of German-Polish economic activities\", which has been organized for 30 years by the German-Polish Academic Forum at SGH in cooperation with JGU and with the support of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prof. Daniel Schunk has headed the German language course at JGU for fourteen years and has developed three joint double degree programs. He also coordinates the exchange of lecturers and semester stays of Polish students and is responsible for raising funds for the program's German-language summer school, which has been held at SGH for 12 years and offers students from German universities the opportunity to get to know the neighboring country better.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

In November 2023 and June 2024, our department hosted the graduation ceremonies, attracting a combined total of around 800 attendees. Prof. Klaus W\u00e4lde (Chair of Macroeconomics) and Prof. Oliver Emrich (Chair of Social Media) delivered inspiring keynote speeches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Alumni Mainz e.V. honored the top-performing students from each study program with special awards, recognizing their outstanding achievements. Additionally, Mazars sponsored awards for the best bachelor and master theses in the field of corporate governance and auditing. Following the ceremonies, the student council graciously provided drinks and snacks, allowing participants to celebrate together. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to all our graduates who successfully completed their studies in the past academic year! The project \u201cInternationalization\u201d, in which the goals were set to attract more international students, both in the Erasmus program and degree-seeking, and to enhance the overall experience for international students at the Department of Business & Economics, is still going strong. To boost the popularity of our internationally oriented master programs, MIEPP and QDEM, we have placed them on multiple online platforms for interested students, including DAAD International Programmes and Keystone Masterstudies. Starting in fall 2024, FB03 will present both English-speaking Master degrees at DAAD Online Hochschulpr\u00e4sentationen, similar to an online fair, targeting countries that have been underrepresented in our master programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last year, the degree programs offered by the Gutenberg School of Business Mainz (GSB Mainz) enjoyed great success. Both MBA programs of GSB Mainz were awarded the prestigious \"Premium Seal\" by the Foundation for International Business Administration Accreditation (FIBAA). This underlines the special academic quality of the part-time management education offered at Mainz University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The outstanding performance of the two MBAs is not a short-term snapshot, but rather the result of years of experience in the conception, organization, implementation and execution as well as, in particular, the demand-oriented further development of part-time MBA programs at the Faculty of Law and Economics<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a two-day event in October 2023, the German-Polish Academic Forum celebrated its 30th anniversary and the continuous development of German-Polish cooperation into a fully-fledged study program in economics. The Forum was founded in 1993 for fostering German-language business and economics education at the SGH Warsaw School of Economics, Poland's oldest business university. \"Since then, the forum has developed in a pioneering way and today offers a unique specialization in the management of German-Polish economic activities,\" emphasizes Prof. Stephan Jolie, Vice President for Studies and Teaching at JGU. \"We congratulate the German-Polish Academic Forum on its 30th anniversary and thank all those involved for their outstanding commitment.\"<\/p>\n\n\n\n
