In the master’s degree program in Business Education (M.Sc.), you will learn how to effectively design and manage educational measures in an economic context. The program of study prepares you to specifically promote and improve the economic decision-making and actions of all those involved in pre-vocational, vocational and continuing education. You can expect a unique combination of Economics, Education and a subject of your choice.
The M.Sc. Business Education is designed as a full-time program over four semesters. The program comprises 120 credit points (CP), distributed across five areas as follows:
- Subject Business and Economics (38 LP)
- (General) Subject of Specialization (42 LP)
- Business Education (16 LP)
- Internship (8 LP)
- Master’s Thesis (16 LP)
The program has a modular structure and offers many elective options in the subject of Business and Economics and in the range of subjects of specialization.

Das Studium ist in Module strukturiert, die sich aus Lehrveranstaltungen und Prüfungen zusammensetzen. Die verbindliche Zusammensetzung legt die Prüfungsordnung fest. Detaillierte inhaltliche Beschreibungen finden Sie im Modulhandbuch des Studiengangs.
Der Stellenwert der Module in der Endnote wird durch Leistungspunkte (LP) ausgedrückt. Ein Leistungspunkt entspricht einer Arbeitsleistung von etwa 30 Stunden (Kontaktzeit und Selbststudium).
Die dominierenden Lehrveranstaltungsformen sind Vorlesung (VL) und Übung (Ü). Dazu kommen bspw. Seminar (S), Projektseminar (PS) und Kolloquium (Ko).
Module schließen in der Regel mit einer Prüfung in Form einer Klausur oder E-Klausur zu Beginn der vorlesungsfreien Zeit ab. Wiederholungstermine werden am Ende der vorlesungsfreien Zeit des gleichen Semester angeboten, d.h. vor Beginn des nächsten Semesters.
Pflichtmodule müssen bestanden werden. Bei Wahlpflichtmodulen gibt es eine größere Auswahl, aus der eine bestimmte Mindest- und Höchstanzahl an Angeboten innerhalb eines Bereichs zu belegen ist. Gewählte Wahlpflichtmodule müssen bestanden werden, jedoch können Studierende zweimal ein nicht-bestandenes Wahlpflichtmodul durch ein anderes ersetzen (aka „Joker“).

- Bachelor’s Degree
- in Business Education or an equivalent degree from a higher education institution
- The application is possible once you have earned at least 135 credit points (CP) in your Bachelor’s program. If you are unable to present your Bachelor’s degree certificate by the application deadline, you must submit confirmation of all coursework and examinations completed to date, including the current cumulative grade. This confirmation must be issued by your university (original or simple copy).
- Please note: If you are admitted and enrolled, you must provide proof of having earned your Bachelor’s degree within a specified deadline. If this proof is not submitted on time, your enrollment in the Master’s program will be revoked.
- A teaching or instruction internship of at least four weeks
- Equivalency Test
Applicants must prove by the application deadline that they have credits from their previous degree program that are equivalent to the Business Education modules from the bachelor’s program in Business Education at Johannes Gutenberg University by submitting a positive equivalency certificate. The equivalence assessment is carried out upon proposal to the examination committee for the degree programs in Business and Economics at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and submission of the documents required for the assessment. - German language proficiency
