The Department of Business and Economics at JGU sees itself as a European and international faculty. This is reflected in its numerous cross-border collaborations in research and teaching, the high proportion of international students and scholars, and their integration into the university. A consistent internationalization of study programs and teaching prepares students for taking on responsibilities in an international context.
A stay abroad is a major personal gain for every student today, offering much more than just an advantage in the job market. Students who return from a longer or shorter period abroad during their studies consistently report that spending time in a different environment, another culture, and at a foreign university is a deeply enriching personal experience.

As a special highlight, Johannes Gutenberg University offers double degree programs in cooperation with international partner universities. These programs alternate between semesters or years spent at JGU and the partner institution. They culminate in a so-called “double degree”, meaning both a bachelor’s or master’s degree from Mainz and the partner university’s degree.
The German-French bachelor’s program, offered in cooperation with Université Paris Nanterre, leads to both a German and a French university degree. The program includes four semesters in Mainz, followed by two semesters in Paris. It is rounded off by an internship in France or another French-speaking country.
High school or A-level graduates who meet the entry requirements particularly well can be admitted directly into the double degree program through the “Greencard” process before beginning their studies.
The German-Polish Double Master’s Program includes one year of study at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and one year at SGH Warsaw, Poland’s leading business university. In Mainz, students can pursue the “Master of Science in Accounting and Finance”, “Master of Science in Management”, or “Master of Science in International Economics and Public Policy”, while in Warsaw, they can earn the “Master of Science in Management” or the “Master in Finance and Accounting”. The language of instruction at SGH Warsaw is English. At JGU Mainz, most business courses are in German; however, courses in International Economics and Public Policy, as well as in statistics and econometrics, are offered in English.
