Henning Hermes, a graduate and former doctoral researcher in Public and Behavioral Economics at JGU Mainz, was appointed Associate Professor of the Economics of Education at LMU Munich in December 2025.

Henning Hermes has reached an important new milestone in his academic career: In December 2025, he was appointed Associate Professor of the Economics of Education at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU Munich). His academic career is closely connected to Mainz. Hermes completed his degree in economics in 2011 and earned his doctorate in 2017 at the Chair of Public and Behavioral Economics headed by Professor Daniel Schunk. His research there focused in particular on behavioral and experimental economics as well as the economics of education.

Following his time at JGU, his academic career took him to institutions including the Norwegian School of Economics in Bergen and the Düsseldorf Institute for Competition Economics at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf. In June 2025, he joined the ifo Center for the Economics of Education in Munich as Deputy Director. His appointment at LMU now adds a professorship in the economics of education to this career path.
