Based on current scientific standards, the Master’s degree program in Management provides students with specialization in Logistics and Management, Information Systems, General Management, Marketing, Cross-Channel Management and Social Media, Management and Digital Transformation and related fields as well as the ability to apply them to decision-making problems in practice. To this end, students are enabled to reduce the complexity of economic problems through abstraction, to develop solutions using scientific methods and to critically question the limits of the applied instruments.

The M. Sc. in Management is designed as full-time studies over 4 semesters. The program has a modular structure and offers many options for specialization in the field of management on the one hand and in the free part with Accounting and Finance, Economics and non-economics courses on the other.

For a program start in the winter semester, the study plan might look like this:

  • University Entrance Qualification
  • Bachelor’s Degree
    • with a standard period of study of at least six semesters in a subject in Business and Economics, or a degree from a university in Germany or abroad that does not differ substantially (e.g., Business and Economics, Business Education, Business Informatics, Business Mathematics, or Business and Economics as a minor/secondary subject).
    • An application is possible once you have earned at least 135 credit points (CP) in your bachelor’s program. If you are unable to present your bachelor’s degree certificate by the application deadline, you must submit confirmation of all coursework and examinations completed to date, including the current cumulative grade. This confirmation must be issued by your university (original or simple copy). Both the cumulative grade and the credit points earned must be indicated.
    • Please note: If you are admitted and enrolled, you must provide proof of having earned your bachelor’s degree by the end of the first semester of the master’s program (March 31 for the summer semester; September 30 for the winter semester). If this proof is not submitted on time, enrollment in the master’s program will be revoked.
  • Quantitative Methodological Content
At least 19 credit points (CP) of the coursework and examinations completed in the bachelor’s degree must be in quantitative methodological content (mathematics, statistics, empirical methods, operations research, game theory). These quantitative methodological skills must be demonstrated at the time of application and cannot be acquired retroactively in the master’s program.
  • German Language Proficiency
Applicants who have neither obtained their higher education entrance qualification at a German-speaking institution nor completed a degree program taught in German must provide proof of German language skills at the level of the “German Language Examination for University Admission of International Applicants (DSH)”.
  • English Language Proficiency
Students are expected to have sufficient active and passive English skills to read academic literature in English and to participate in courses taught in English. This does not include the ability to produce written coursework or examinations in English. No formal proof of proficiency is required.

If you have already completed coursework in Business and Economics in another master’s program that may be eligible for recognition, please obtain a placement decision before applying. To do so, contact the Study Office of the Faculty of Law, Business and Economics (anerkennungen-wiwi AT uni-mainz.de).

If the number of applications regularly and significantly exceeds the number of available places, admission is limited (restricted admission).

The selection procedure applies to applicants who meet the admission requirements. If the number of available study places is smaller than the number of formally and academically qualified applications, a selection procedure is carried out (main procedure, and possibly subsequent admission rounds or a lottery procedure). In the selection procedure, study places are allocated according to the selection grade (final grade of the bachelor’s degree or preliminary cumulative grade of the previous studies) or according to waiting time. Your selection grade may be improved if

  • at least two years of relevant professional experience in a qualified position, a completed vocational training program, or particularly qualifying internships of at least six months in relevant professional fields beyond the required internships,
  • outstanding achievements (academic scholarships, awards, prizes, publications, presentations, etc.).

you can provide additional proof of qualifications.

The application for the M.Sc. Management takes place online.

The following information supplements the requirements of the Central Student Services Office only:

  • Fully completed additional selection form (provided during the online application).
Please list all courses that count toward quantitative methodological content, indicating the ECTS for each. If you are unsure whether a course qualifies as a quantitative method, include it on the form anyway and attach a module description. Courses not listed on the form will not be considered.
  • Simple copy of the bachelor’s degree certificate
  • Simple copy of vocational training or employment certificates, internship certificates, etc
  • If applicable, proof of outstanding achievements (simple copy)

To apply to the University of Mainz, applicants with a foreign university degree must first have their certificate or other prior academic qualifications recognized by the International Office – Incoming. Please allow sufficient time for this process before submitting your actual application.
