Economics is part of Faculty 03 – Law, Management and Economics – and, with 28 professorships, ranks among the largest academic units at Johannes Gutenberg-University Mainz. More than 2,700 students are enrolled in degree programs in Economics and Business Education, leading to Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, and Master of Education degrees. In addition, over 1,000 students are enrolled in Economics as a minor subject.

The degree programs in economics are clearly structured, and the academic education and training opportunities are of outstanding quality. The Handelsblatt rankings have confirmed the excellent research performance of the professors in Mainz. The Department of Business and Economics sees itself as a faculty that, through its broad, high-quality, and methodologically grounded curriculum, prepares students for leadership roles in business and public administration, research institutions, or teaching at vocational schools (business education).
