Prof. Dr. Karolin Kirschenmann has been the new Professor of Economics with a focus on Empirical Banking at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz since March 5, 2025. The joint appointment with ZEW – Leibniz Centre for European Economic Research Mannheim was made as part of the Leibniz Association’s Leibniz Professorship Program. Kirschenmann continues to work at ZEW as deputy head of the field of research “Pension Plans and Sustainable Financial Markets”.

Prof. Dr. Karolin Kirschenmann’s research focuses on the propagation of crises through global banking networks, the behavior of savers in uncertain times and the role of banks in financing a carbon-neutral economy. Her work appears in leading journals such as Review of Finance, Journal of Financial Intermediation and Journal of Money, Credit and Banking.
